Assistive Technology Room

Assistive Technology Room

The Assistive Technology room is intended to offer greater access to equipment needed by those students who are learning disabled, hearing and/or visually impaired.  Library personnel are not trained in the use of this equipment.

All users are expected to seek out training from the Office of Access and Accommodations or a peer mentor recommended by the Counseling Center

The room is equipped with three PCs, one Mac, headphones, a large print keyboard, braille keyboard, networked scanner, a printer, a Braille printer and one Clearview by Optalec magnifying reader (just outside the room). We also offer the following software:

  • Jaws screen reading software
  • Dragon/naturally speaking software
  • Kurzweil scanning/reading software for visual disabilities
  • Read & Write GOLD software for learning and reading support

The Assistive Technology room is located on the library's main floor, just around the corner from the Reference desk (opposite the DMZ). If you experience any issues in the room (paper or toner needs) or can't get in, please inquire at the Circulation Desk.

For questions or issues concerning the operation of this room, please contact Lauren Rodriguez Program Coordinator of the Office of Access and Accommodations at (914) 251-6035
